Newbies bashing pioneers

Is it me or is there an epidemic of newbies talking trash about those who came before them? Is there something in the water or the food that makes the new kids so silly that they think they are more relevant than those who paved the way for them? Is it somehow beyond their ability to have respect or even admiration for the people that made it possible for them to even HAVE a career? When Lady GAGA first came on the scene I thought cool, someone bringing the 'show' back to show business. She seemed to have a new twist on an old formula. Then she did her 'Born this Way' song and said that anyone who thought it sounded like Madonna's express yourself was retarded. She claims to have written the song herself. That's fine, but that doesn't mean that you didn't hear Madonna's song when you were 9 and internalize it. I mean Mariah Carey didn't come on the scene and start talking crap about Patti Labelle. Whitney Houston didn't come on the scene and start saying she was better than Chaka Khan. I mean you have to give respect where respect is due.

Most recently is the 'feud' between Lil Kim and Nickles Minaj. I have to admit when Lil Kim first came out in the early 90's with 'Crush on You' I liked the song. It was cute and flirty with a fly beat. But then as time went on she became more and more explicit which was not helping with the whole woman hating gangsta rap climate that was emerging at the time. It seemed like the grimy ass bitch/hoe that was constantly under the timbalands of all the male rappers, Kim loved being. She talked a good game about being a Mob Boss but it doesn't hold alot of weight when you're butt naked. Many women, not just black women fall into this cavern of thinking that being the girl that gets guys erect makes her powerful. That being the girl who talks about sex like a man makes you desirable to men. Just because a man wants to screw you tonight doesn't mean that you are in control of shit. Kim's lyrics became porn for guys who own guns. She was a female who wasn't talking to me. AT ALL. I thought, this is the end of hip hop for sure. Missy Elliot came on the scene and I could breathe again. But then in 2009 Minaj came on the scene by way of Weezy. The Weezy connection was enough to get her muted in my book because I can't stand him. But I always have to listen to someone first before I make a decision about them. I listened and hated what I heard because it was all nonsense with no references, no story, no cleverness to it whatsoever. Using the same words over and over and even rhyming the same word with itself? How lazy is that? But then she stepped over the line and began attacking Lil Kim. Out came the disastrous track 'Stupid Hoe'. This is the worst song I have ever heard in my life. I'd rather listen to, Cotton Eyed Joe, Macarena, and Barbie Girl on a loop for an entire day than ever hear this piece of garbage again. How are you going to name yourself Minaj thinking somehow you are empowering yourself? Your last name is a sex act. The idea that young girls, grade school girls are going around saying this name is really tragic. The irony that Nikki can't seem to grasp is how can you call someone a stupid hoe and you are the one crawling around in a cage on your hands and knees half naked? I mean someone has it seriously twisted around here. It's not cute for women to spend their time and energy trying to tear each other down. However Kim came back with her Black Sunday track and was clearly the lyrical victor. Her rhymes were clean, concise, hard and biting, with witty jabs that were clearly old school. Sure Kim has morphed into one of the Jackson's over the years, and faded into the background, but she can still rap and tear someone apart if need be. I never ever thought that I would applaud Lil Kim for any reason until now. My hat is off to you girl. Good holdin it down.
